This is something that we rely on daily. I think it's interesting hearing what people think common sense is. Everyone have their own ideas of what common sense really is. Most people have a lot of the same common sense but occasionally someone will say something that they think is so obvious but I'm like , "Say what?!". I think we mostly gain common sense as young children from our parents or the people closest to us. Therefore we all get that random fact that totally makes sense to us and that we just grow up knowing, so we think it's known by all. I think these random unknown common sense facts are often seen when two people from different cultures or backgrounds talk. This is one way that I gain interesting facts that I would probably never have learned through my family.

Hello Kelli,
ReplyDeleteI agree with you, common sense is something everyone is taught by parents and whoever is the closest to us. I do too have those days where I am talking to someone and I do not completely understand what they meant while they claim it is “common sense”. I never would have thought that common sense differentiates according to someone’s culture or background, but you are right. When my brother was in the Navy he told me that there is a certain way you have to greet people in Japan. If you move your hand from side to side, it is considered an insult. So, I guess common sense is not so common after all.
Hi Kelli,
ReplyDeleteI would have to agree as well common sense is definitely something different for everyone. I think we all have are moments where things should be obvious enough that we know the answer right away, but sometimes we completely draw a blank well I know I can lol. Yes I think it has a lot to do with family, friends your different surroundings that helps your common sense develop or increase over time. Like LaDra said I never considered common sense being different by culture, but it is true they do many things differently then we do. So are social norm for us is a mystery to others from different countries. That is crazy LaDra just simple hand movements could be insulting, to us in america the hand incult is the middle finger lol.
